Description: I have been told that Wapak made skillets in 3 grades, A, B, and C. The theory is as follows. Grade A skillets were the premium skillets marked with the Chieftain medallion. Grade C skillets were the skillets made by using another company’s product – these are the items that retained the original manufacturer pattern numbers and maker’s marks, but with a mudded logo and incised “Wapak.” Often the original logo remained visible as a ghost. There are many, many examples of Wapak skillets cast from Griswold and Erie skillets as patterns – they are all slightly smaller. Grade B skillets were standard quality skillets cast from Wapak patterns with the zig-zag logo or the tapered logo. A few of these, such as this rare example, are marked with a “B.” Neither the A Grade nor the C Grade were typically marked with a letter. However, this skillet was cast from an old ERIE mold and still carries the "B" on the handle. The block lettering WAPAK in the center of the pan is almost invisible due to the effects of sulfur erosion. The cooking surface has light utensil scores and very fine patches of etching from corrosion. These are undetectable as you glide your fingers over a glass smooth surface. The pan does not appear to have been abused by heat in any way. I think the casting anomalies on the rear are causing the wobble. No chips, cracks or repairs and does not spin. This item was stripped down to bare metal using collector approved lye bath and electrolysis treatments. This process ensures the removal of all residue from previous use making it safe to use once more. The item is lightly seasoned with one round of Crisco at 450 for 1 hour. This item was photographed in very bright light to highlight fine details. Under these lighting conditions, items may take on a brown color. Items are much darker under normal light. Photos are part of the item’s description. Please use them for a clearer understanding of items’ overall condition. If you have any questions, please let me know.
