Description: Picked these up in Germany back in the late 80's -- thought I'd hang them on the wall and never did. I have Motiv 1, 2 and 3. Happy to break these up, but for now listing as a set. Please let me know if you need one of the three (or two). They belong to a series of twelve plates. The Aladin collectors plates tell the story of one of the best known figures in "the Thousand and One Nights" Aladin, fortune's favorite who discovers the world's greatest treasure and emerges unscathed from even the most perilous situations. Bjorn Wiinblad tells the story in masterly fashion in twelve scenes, portraying the twelve most important stages in Aladin's progress. Each plate is painstakingly decorated in brilliant colors on intense cobalt blue. The valuable gold ornamentation enhances the effect of the illustrates scenes. Wiinblad's colors and artistic rendering do full justice to the splendor of the Oriental tales. Motif 1: Aladin and the Magic Lamp - this plate is the title motif of the Aladin series and depicts Aladin talking to the Spirt of the Lamp who fulfills all of Aladin's wishes. Motif 2: Aladin plays with street urchins - a scene from the Oriental city where Aladin lives. Mischievous tricks are the most daring and yet the street traders make him gifts of the finest fruits. Motif 3: Aladin meets the magician -- An African magician chooses Aladin to bring him to the Magic Lamp from out of a subterranean enchanted garden. He makes Aladin a gift of fine clothes and entices him into the magic mountain. Each plate is right around 6.5" round and has a hook on the back to hang. In original box - carried back from German with love!
