Description: Vintage Oil Painting by Ivan Olinsky Description and Item Information Up for sale is this framed, vintage oil on board painting by the well-known impressionist artist, Ivan Gregorewitch Olinsky. Please excuse any glare in the photos. With soft brush strokes, the artist depicted a vase of colorful flowers resting on a table with a blue cloth. The sight area is approximately 15 1/2 inches by 11 1/2 inches. The painting is housed in an attractive frame which is gold-finished wood, with soft, grayish highlights. The frame is newer than the painting, but it still suits it. The exterior frame dimensions are approximately 21 3/4 inches by 17 3/4 inches. Unpacked, this piece weighs 5 pounds 13.3 ounces. Also included is some paperwork which was with the painting when I bought it, as shown. These pieces include a February 10, 1946 letter written by Olinsky which was apparently included when he gifted art supplies to the letter's recipient. A tattered envelope which held this letter is part of this paperwork. Also included is a piece of paper which indicates that the painting was a wedding gift from the artist to an unidentified, newly married couple. Another printed paper has biographical information about Olinsky. Finally, there is a handwritten note with additional information about Olinsky's work. This would be a fine addition to a collection of American impressionist fine art. Identification This painting is by Ivan Gregorewitch Olinsky (1878-1962), a well-known artist with a listing on askART. The age of this vintage piece is not known. A label with number "211" is affixed to the back of the board. The ink-stamped markings on the back of the board are from the board's manufacturer or seller. Per askART, Ivan G. Olinsky was born in Elizabethgrad in Southern Russia. As a child, he moved to New York with his parents. He studied at the National Academy of Design and at the Art Students League. Later, he taught at both schools. Olinsky spent a few years in Europe from 1908 to 1911 to pursue art in Italy and France. Afterwards, he returned to New York, where he established his Greenwich Village studio. Olinsky received accolades for his work during his lifetime, winning numerous awards, including the 1929 Carnegie Prize from the National Academy of Design. The printed paper included in the paperwork has a list of other awards that Olinsky won. The influence of French impressionism is evident in Olinsky's color palette and painting style. He is considered a master American impressionist. Condition This piece looks great overall, as shown. The painting is clean and bright; I found a few very light scratches to the surface, which do not detract overall. The frame also looks very good, with light wear.
