The gallon designation and the Elephant Ears are crisp and in black. The crock has the sought after "bottom signature" of "Minnesota Stoneware Red Wing". There is a shallow chip about 1" across on the left side towards the bottom and several smaller lower side chips as shown in the photos. The first two stamps to be used where the Elephant Ear and the Birch Leaf. They were stamped as single pairs or double pairs. With the use of stamps, it became much easier to identify a crock as Red Wing. Around 1906, the elephant ear and birch leaf stamps were replaced with the now-familiar red wing stamp.
