Description: GO 4G at Grandpa Gary's Garage Goodies! Offered here in a rare, original Arlie Pearce designed masonite Dekalb flying ear of corn field sign. It is marked "AP" under the A. The early 31-inch Masonite signs used a silk-screening process that was done by hand. Each Winged Ear sign produced under the direction of Arlie contained his initials in the kernels of the corn, as artists of the day were trained to identify their work. The J. V. Patten Company, where the signs were made, wasn’t aware Arlie’s initials were on the signs before hundreds of signs were made. Later, more common signs were marked "DC" (Display Craft), 83, 84, 85, 86 or no markings. 1986 was the last year Masonite was used. As with most vintage items there are imperfections such as scratches, indents. stains, chips, minor cracks, fading, etc. It measures 31 1/4" x 16"
