I believe the base is either a light-weight wood or some sort of paper mache. Giraffe stands on its own without support. It is only 3 oz in weight.I acquired this from the estate of an elderly couple who traveled the world, but I do not know its origin.Condition:Antique Victorian Era in Good condition. Giraffe is missing 1 ear and has some of the fur seam exposed in its mane. This is visible in photos.
