Description: Vatican Commander’s Cross Order of St. Gregory Medal in Original Box The Vatican Order of Gregory Medal, also known as the Equestrian Order of St. Gregory the Great, is the fourth highest Papal order and is awarded to Catholic men and women, as well as some non-Catholics, for their service to the Catholic Church and the Holy See. The order was established in 1831 by Pope Gregory XVI to recognize civic and military service to the Papal States, but was later modified to recognize service to the Catholic Church regardless of religious affiliation. The order's motto is Pro Deo et Principe, which means "For God and Ruler". The medal is an eight-pointed red enamelled gold cross with a blue medallion in the center. The medallion features a gold image of St. Gregory with a dove near his right ear, and the words "S. Gregorius Magnus" in a golden circle around the image. The reverse side of the medal features the device "Pro Deo et Principe" and the words "GREGORIUS XVI. P. M. ANNO." The badge is the cross surrounded by silver rays, and the ribbon is red with orange borders. Also includes the original red box, with gold clasp, and gold design on front…the inside has wording: Tanfani & Bertarelli Roma, the company who produced the medal Preowned in very good condition plus condition…the medal & ribbon has no major damage, the only issue is that it shows some tarnishing…the box looks very nice, issue are: edge wear with mild color loss on outside, inside shows staining & minor cloth tear (see photos)
