Description: Uzaburo Kokeshi Doll "Girl in a Kimono" Description This is a kokeshi doll of a girl wearing a kimono. It is about 20.5 cm tall. It is made of wood and feels quite heavy when you pick it up. About Usaburo Kokeshi This kokeshi workshop is located in Gunma Prefecture, which has the highest shipping volume of original kokeshi dolls in Japan. Its founder, the first Usaburo (Okamoto Usaburo), was born in Shinto Village, Gunma Prefecture, where the workshop is currently located, and started making kokeshi dolls in Shibukawa City, Gunma Prefecture in 1950. Currently, Usaburo Kokeshi dolls are made by six artists who have inherited the techniques of the founder. The distinctive feature of Usaburo Kokeshi is the beautiful grain of the natural wood used to make the dolls, such as zelkova and dogwood, and the way different parts of the wood are used depending on their characteristics. I think what makes them so appealing is their cuteness and their solid technical and design skills.
