Titles include 北京日报 "Beijing Daily", 中国青年报 "China Youth Daily", 人民日报 "People's Daily", generally in very good condition with occasional closed tears and light creases. Text in Chinese. Examples of content which can be found in this collection are: On 18 May 1989, large scale protest took place in more than 10 major cities in China, including: Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuhan, Zhongqing, Jinan, Guangzhou, Kunming, Guiyang, Nanning, Zhengzhou, Chengdu, Taiyuan, Hefei, Lanzhou, Linfen. At the same time more than one million Chinese citizens participated in the protest in Beijing the same day. On 18 May 1989, the sixth day of the hunger strike, health experts warned of the danger of potential widespreading of infectious diseases and urged people to stop the strike and protest immediately. On 19 May 1989 at 4:45 am, 赵紫阳 [Zhao Ziyang] and 李鹏 [Li Peng] visited student representatives who were part of the hunger strike at the Tiananmen Square. On 9 June 1989, transcripts of Deng Xiaoping's speech "Address To Officers At the Rank of General and Above In Command of the Troops Enforcing Martial Law in Beijing" was highlighted on the front page of the newspaper. In his speech, Deng expressed his sincere condolences to the soldiers and members of the police force who lost their lives during the event. Deng also reassured them that the resolute action taken against the rebellion was correct and the “three-stage” national development strategy was the right course of action.
