Description: THOMAS HARDY - Wessex Poems - the original Deluxe issue - very rare ! The first edition, deluxe issue of Hardy's first collection of poems. The deluxe issue was advertised by Harpers as "a few copies handsomely bound, for presentation purposes". This is a binding variant from the standard issue and is now very rare. The cream buckram boards are bevelled and all edges are gilt. The spine lettering and TH logo on the front cover are gilt. There are twelve full page illustrations and eighteen smaller head and tail pieces which are all reproduced from drawings by Hardy. The covers are quite toned as are the pastedowns, end papers and title page. There is a small nick to the head of spine. Internally immaculate and has probably never been read.
