Thackeray was a prominent novelist, illustrator, satirist and parodist.Thackeray is best known as a literary and social rival of Charles Dickens. Dickens had rejected Thackeray as an illustrator when the two were young men; and they later publicly quarreled decades later over the membership status of peer Edmund Yates within their Gentleman's Garrick Club. THE VIRGINIANS is a sequel to HENRY ESMOND ; whereas the twin grandsons of Esmond enlist into the British army at the outbreak of the American War of Independence. General George Washington is depicted as a villain who nearly kills one of the brothers in a duel. Thackeray's most famous work is VANITY FAIR. A must addition to the personal library of the Thackeray, Victorian and even Dickens scholar and bibliophile. Please check out my other 19th century Victorian/Dickensian era first edition titles.
