Description: New in the box and never displayed 21st Century Toys/The Ultimate Soldier 1/18 Scale North American F-86F-30 Sabre "Mitch's Squitch" as flown by Col John W. Mitchell, Commanding Officer of the 51st Fighter Interceptor Wing in Korea during the Korean War in 1953. Col Mitchell was credited with the destruction of 4 enemy MiG fighters while flying this aircraft in Korea. These models were produced by 21st Century Toys in 2006, and this version is a bit rare today. Col Mitchell is best known as the pilot that commanded the mission that shot down Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto during World War II on April 18, 1943. Col John W. Mitchell was born on July 14, 1915, in Enid, Mississippi. He was awarded his pilot wings in July 1940, and during World War II he was credited with the destruction of 12 enemy aircraft in aerial combat. In Korea, Col Mitchell commanded the 51st Fighter Interceptor Wing where he added 4 more aircraft to his total, for a two-war total of 16 enemy aircraft shot down. He retired from the Air Force in 1958, and he died on November 15, 1995. For his heroism and leadership in combat, Col Mitchell was awarded the Army Distinguished Service Cross, the Navy Cross, the Legion of Merit, 3 Distinguished Flying Crosses, the Bronze Star Medal, and 10 Air Medals.
