Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 It’s hard to know whether to classify this excellent book as a work of fiction or non-fiction, but given the large amount of historical information contained in it, it qualifies more as a non-fictional work than anything else, albeit set around the life and exploits of Horatio Hornblower, C.S. Forester’s heroic and enigmatic literary character, who spends most of his life in the British Navy during Napoleonic times. Written by C. Northcote Parkinson, the originator of the well known “Parkinson’s Laws”, this book uses Hornblower’s career as the skeleton on which to hang a remarkable amount of historical detail about the actual happenings of the time in which Hornblower would have lived, namely 1776-1857. Hornblower’s activities are fitted so seamlessly into this historical backdrop that the book could be describing a real person, and the reader has to continually remind themselves that Hornblower is just a literary invention. A very well written and entertaining work, highly recommended. This 1970 Hardcover is in very good condition, with no internal markings and a cover enclosed in a mylar sheath.
