Description: For the Stangl collector who has everything! This is a wonderful example of a unique (and short-lived) Stangl design. Stangl Delle-ware (also known as Della-Ware) was introduced in 1941 by Stangl Pottery for Fisher, Bruce, & Company. According to the Stangl website, it is the first dinnerware pattern design by artist Kay Hackett. Due to having a somewhat fragile glaze, the Delle Ware patterns can sometimes be difficult to find. A special feature of the Delle/Della-ware designs is the glaze work: the glaze and paint are somewhat translucent - allowing the terra cotta pottery underneath to peek through. This glaze technique resulted in a rustic, cottage finish. The "Delle/Della-Ware" series included a lovely fruit pattern called "Festival" - which heralded many of Stangl's iconic fruit patterns in the decades that followed. The creamer and sugar bowl feature a charming pear and cherries vignette. Each piece has a few visible flaws (this particular glaze technique is prone to nicks and chips). The cream pitcher has some small nicks on the spout, and the lid of the sugar bowl has some nicks on the rim. Because there's so much interest in Delle Ware pieces, I included them in my shop and priced them accordingly.-------------------------------------A note on sustainability: Pre-owned and vintage items are some of the most sustainable items you can buy, collect or give. Vintage purchases connect us to our past, and further a deep appreciation of unique styles, materials and craftsmanship. In addition to their beauty, they lower our consumer footprint by preventing energy and other resources from being used to create new items. (The production of new items requires significant resources, such as water, energy, and raw materials.)-------------------------------------About Stangl Pottery:In addition to being highly collectible (not to mention giftable), Stangl Pottery is known far and wide for innovative artware, colorful bird figurines, and hand-painted dinnerware. The company began in 1814 as Hill Pottery in Flemington, NJ - which produced drain pipes, storage crocks and jars from the local red earthenware clay. It later became Fulper Pottery of New Jersey. Fulper Pottery primarily produced stoneware, and later, introduced their now famous Vasekraft art pottery in 1909. In 1910, Johann Martin Stangl was hired to develop new pottery shapes and glazes. Stangl later became president, and changed the company name to Stangl Pottery in 1929 (dinnerware made by the company was marked Stangl beginning in 1930). Stangl was responsible for the introduction of America’s first open stock solid-color dinnerware. Stangl's beautiful hand-painted dinnerware and artware was sold through over 3,000 department, gift and jewelry stores across America. Their showroom even became a popular tourist destination. By November 1978, Stangl Pottery ceased manufacturing and closed forever, signaling the end of a truly unique American folk-art product. Nevertheless, their beautiful pieces are still highly sought out, and highly prized by collectors.-----------------------------------------------------**Combined Shipping: I ship orders as quickly as possible.
