Description: The Chicago Yacht Club, the CYC, was founded in 1875 to "encourage and promote the sport of yachting". In 1898, the first “Race to Mackinac” was held and the club is known as being the “Organizing Authority” for the “Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac”, which is held each July. In 1900, the club obtained its first clubhouse, the “Argo” clubhouse located at the Illinois Pier #3. Chicago Yacht Club’s original “Chicago to Mackinac Trophy” officially dates to 1906 and has been awarded annually since 1921. In 1920, the Lincoln Park Yacht Club, which had helped start the “Canada’s Cup”, combined with the Chicago Club. The CYC has two club houses or stations, one at Monroe Harbor and on at Belmont Harbor. They are, however, not at home on this card. The caption is “Chicago Yacht Club About to Leave Harbor, St. Joseph, Michigan”. Chicago is about 6 miles across Lake Michigan from St. Joseph, which is on the east coast of the Lake. The card, published by the “Burkhard Bros., St Joseph”, postmarked 1914, is in good condition with minor wear and a clean, clear image. The reverse has a light message and is addressed and clean.
