Description: You are bidding on one small compassed or circular British wood coffin or smoothing plane as pictured. The body is marked with owner "RD WHYTE" in 6 places. The first letter is tough to make out, it might be "ED WHYTE".The iron is marked "I SORBY" with the famous Mr Punch logo. Overall length of the body is about 4-3/4". Width at the widest point is about 1-3/4", with the width at either end considerably less.Width of the iron is about 1-7/16", and overall length is about 4-1/2". It is a tapered iron, about .155" thick near the sharp edge, and about .095" thick near the upper edge. The plane is rounded or compassed as viewed from the side.Condition of the plane is good, other than the large crack on the left side. There are a variety of small scratches and dings and stains, and some deeper scratches in the sole especially right in front of the throat. Both of the little "wings" that hold the wedge are intact. The wedge has some chips, some crossways scratches, and some wear or sanding of the tops of the "arms" that stick out. The iron has some casting roughness, lots of scratches, some grinding of the upper edge where it was peened over, and a rather uneven sharpening. The iron and the wedge both appear to be original to the plane. Despite the issues, this plane has a lot of "personality" for such a small plane. The Post Office now has several prices increases during each year, raising a few things but not everything at each increase. And they now raise their rates during the Holidays, which means early October to late January. Their big increases are in January, timed to start at the end of the Holiday rates, and this year is no exception. And it's not just the postage rates, the insurance charges and the delivery signature charges have also gone up. There is now a surcharge for Priority Mail packages over 20" long, and another for Priority Mail packages over 30" long, because those longer packages won't fit in their automatic machines. And the Post Office has discontinued the Regional Flat Rate boxes, which were often less expensive for certain sizes and weights. I try to pick the best shipping option for each listing, based both on what is the least expensive and on what I think is needed to protect the item. If the value is $250 or over, eBay requires your signature at delivery for the buyer and seller protections to be in effect.SALES TAX: Interstate sales tax is now the reality on all the major selling websites including eBay. If I ship to a state where eBay is required to collect sales tax, eBay will charge you the sales tax for your location. There is lots of information available from eBay that explains it in much more detail. The sales tax is completely out of my hands -- I don't have anything to do with deciding whether to charge tax, I don't have anything to do with deciding the tax rate, and I never see any of the funds that are collected, they go directly to eBay.SELLING OUTSIDE OF EBAY: Why would I risk my lengthy good standing with eBay to save you a couple of dollars?
