His novels, set in post-Napoleonic Ireland and Europe, featured lively, picaresque heroes. St. Patrick's Eve, included in this set, was illustrated by Phiz. Phiz also illustrated many of Charles Dickens' novels, including David Copperfield, Pickwick Papers, Dombey and Son, Martin Chuzzlewit and Bleak House. Phiz was a pen name for the English artist and illustrator Hablot Knight Browne (1815 – 1882). Phiz illustrated more than 20 of Lever's novels. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Our father was a bibliophile who collected rare books, letters, and ephemera for more than 60 years.
