Description: You are purchasing a: Sheila's Dimensional Wood FigurineBEAUREGARD-KEYES HOUSENew Orleans, LAThe Beauregard-Keyes house, designed by Francois Correjolles, was built in 1826 by Joesph Le Carpentier, a well-to-do auctioneer Paul Charles Morphy, one of the great chess masters of the world, was born here in 137 and was the maternal grandson of Joesph Le Carpentier. There were many residents through the years including Pierre G. T. Beauregard, a noted Confederate leader, who lived there for eighteen months. In 1925, the owners announced their intentions to demolish the house and erect a macaroni factory. A group of patriotic ladies and gentlemen raised some funds, saved the house and started the restorations. In 1944, the house was rented to author, Frances Parkinson Keyes, who eventually took it over and continued it restorations. In 1948, the Keyes foundation was formed and the house was given over to their care. Mrs Keyes called the house her winter residence for a quarter of a century and wrote many books while there, including: Dinner at Antoine's (a local restaurant), Chess Player (Paul Morphy), and Madam Castel's Lodger (story of Beauregard and this house).8" l x 4 7/8" h x 1"Sheila ©1994JN004Made in U.S.A.Previously owned - gently displayed - great condition Actual item is photographed - questions...please ask before purchase Paying and Shipping Details: Payment to be received by seller within 7 days of final bid, no exceptions.
