Description: Set of 4 Egyptian Canopic Jars Organs Storage Funerary Statues 2¼"-3" Handcrafted This Egyptian art set is a stunning addition to any collection. The set includes four canopie jars made from heavy stone. The intricate designs on the jars depict the Egyptian culture and history. The provenance of this set is not available. Most likely these are more modern replicas of the ancient versions. They would make a great gift for any collector or lover of Egyptian art. Origin is uncertain, but these did come from the estate of a woman who was known to travel. These are in very good, previously owned condition, with only one flaw that I could see - the tip of the nose of the tallest one has been chipped off. See photos. Canopic JarsHand made and crafted, these beautiful carved sculptures require the great deal of care and time given to them by Egyptian craftspeople. Made of special clay, these peices are individually hand carved, detailed and finished by professional artisans. Today, Egyptian craftspeople follow in the path of their Ancient ancestors, following every procedure, step by step, to give you the same works of art crafted by the Royal Pharaohs over 5000 years ago. The Ancient Egyptians used canopic jars as a part and as a ritual at the mummification process. The main purpose of canopic jars was to keep and preserve the viscera because they believed they will need this body parts after their death in the other world. All the viscera were not kept in a single canopic jar, but each organ was placed in a canopic jar of its own. There were four canopic jars displays in the tombs, each jar contained different human parts: liver, lungs, intestines and the stomach. ************ See my other auctions.
