This is the gritty story of a New York City marriage on the rocks. Blue-collar James Gandolfini is married to Susan Sarandon (believe it or not, their names are Nicky and Kitty Murder). They have 3 young adult daughters - Aida Turtorro, (the directors' cousin), Mary-Louise Parker, and Mandy Moore..He's having a romance with a younger British woman (Kate Winslet), who sends him a love poem adorned with a sketch of his private parts. Sarandon discovers it and calls him out, and each spouse seeks advice from his/her closest advisors (which is where all the other big names come in). It was considered a musical due to many featured songs, but it's really a drama with gritty ethnic comedy. It barely made a dent at the box office, taking in only $600,000 in North America, part of a weak $3 million worldwide total. But it was a Best Film nominee at the Venice Film Festival and well-received by the audience at the Toronto Film Festival. UAnited Artists only financed part of production. Produced by the newer NYC company Greenestreet, it was co-financed by the Coen Brothers (whose style Turturro emulated, although with less zany comedy), and Mel Gibson's Icon Entertainment International. It's Region 1 (U.S. and Canada), Rated R, in color, with Dolby Digital Sound and a running time of 1 hour 46 minutes. There are no other awards DVDs on eBay, which has many retail copies. My copy's a rare collectible for fans of the brilliant actor John Turturro and the late, great James Gandolfini. Plus the rest of the cast is jaw-dropping for a small-budget, art-house film.
