Description: The 1990 Los Angeles Festival was a 16-day extravaganza that brought 1300 artists from more than 25 countries to Los Angeles for a celebration of the music, dance, theatre, film, video, visual art, and literature of the Pacific Rim. It was a radical undertaking. Peter Sellars, the festival's director, oriented the festival towards art that was "community-based, collectively created, not made by solo geniuses. Art that is kept alive over a period of time because a few people cared." This rare and vibrant poster on thick card stock was designed at Coy, Los Angeles, a studio known for its inventive and sophisticated designs. Copies of the poster from Peter Seller's personal collection are also held at the Getty Research Institute. There are some minor surface scratches (see all photos). The poster marks an important moment in LA cultural history. The poster was printed in vibrant Pantone colors using offset lithographic ink for color fidelity and has been stored flat under glass, protected from light. Ships in a carefully packed art tube to protect edges.
