Description: Very pleased to offer to fellow collectors an extremely rare ginbari (silver foil ground) vase with a fishnet overlay design! Yes, I really do not like to use the word “rare,” but for this example, it really is! I have had several “fishnet overlay” vases in my collection, but this one does not have the typical cloison or wire cells placed on the silver foil ground! This is technique makes this ginbari vase, technically, a wireless (musen) design which is practically unheard of. Given that I personally seen only a handful of musen (wireless) on a ginbari (silver foil) ground, this example with the fishnet overlay design makes this an exceptionally rare piece. To place this piece in a higher “rarity” category, is the artist’s use of gold enamel to outline the floral design. The artist has also added three small butterflies near the top or mouth of the vase. This vase does have a few condition issues, but they can be considered cosmetic or minor. There is one small (tiny) bubble, but miraculously, it has not darkened with oxidation. There is one hairline that runs perpendicular to the base and this is the most notable condition issue. There are three hairlines that run from the base, but they are very hard to notice due the highly reflective silver foil ground. As in most ginbari (silver foil ground) vases, there are the expected tiny gaps or slivers that are formed when the silver foil is carefully laid down to the metal foundation. Overall, these condition issues can be considered cosmetic in nature when considering the artist’s use of gold enamel to outline the design, the “fishnet pattern overlay” and lack of any wire cloisons! The height of this ginbari (silver foil) vase is approximately 4.75 inches The width of this ginbari (silver foil) vase is approximately 2.25 inches This item will be packed with tremendous care.
