Description: This vase came to the U.S. years ago in the cloth covered box. Huge (19") tall and heavy, it is white porcelain with what looks like hand painted scenes involving a dragon. Towards the top is Chinese script that translates: From the eighth year of the Zhi year to the Yuan Dynasty. Two handles towards the top. On the bottom is written (Translated): Shuangjinzao, the eighth year of Emperor Zhizheng of the Yuan Dynasty. Bottom also has a unique swirl pattern in the clay. Vase has some glazing along the bottom. I see no chips or other damage. The box: Black with red dragons material covering boards. Inside is orange felt like material with orange strap holding lid from opening too far. Has two metal latches and long yellow loop rope on each side for handles. Measures 20 x 12 x 12" and the vase fits nicely inside. How old?I had a person knowledgeable in Chinese history look at this. He offered his opinion: For the vase: The Yuan (Mongol) dynasty was from 1271-1368, the vase is not from that era. He thought it is a commemorative vase, probably early 1900's, to recognize the last emperor, Zhizheng, of that dynasty. He advised similar examples have sold consistently for $1000-$1500. He did comment he has never seen one this large. For the box, he advised it is not that old. Maybe 1960's.
