From the Music Center in Los Angeles, to Carnegie Hall in New York; from the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, to the Festival Hall in London, he really played them all. Yet, if there was one place Stan considered home, it was a simple ballroom in Balboa Beach, California. This recording is both a quintessential example of Kenton, his band and it's awesome power during this period and of Wally Heider's exceptional engineering talent he would later become famed for. Striking a perfect balance between clarity, warmth, and depth, Heider seamlessly captures here the fine jazz arrangements by Johnny Richards and Bill Holman.
