Description: From our personal collection we are pleased to offer this outstanding pair of huge Art Nouveau vases by Francesco Flora. Francesco Flora was an Italian artist, born in 1857 in Rome, the date of his death is unknown. During the art nouveau period he produced a range of statues and vases in the art nouveau manner many featuring a woman's head as in this case. Both these vases have a foundry mark indicating they were cast in Paris. The also both have the Flora signature (see photos). The vases are large and heavy each one being approximately 17" tall and 7" wide across widest part of base. We believe they were designed to be used with inserts (glass or metal) that sat in the top. However, the inserts have been lost over time. It is unclear to us whether they vases are a spelter that has been given a bronze finish or they are patinated bronze. We tend to think the former. Any information would be welcome. Thg vases were designed to be sold as a pair with each one containing one maiden head facing the other. One of the maidens is looking up at a butterfly. The vases are in generally good antique condition (bearing in mind they are over 100 years old). Each has some wear. The main problem is that one vase has hairline crack in lower part of vase.
