Description: This is the April, 1945 issue of Physical Culture edited and published by Bernarr Macfadden. Today there are huge numbers of authors advocating various programs of exercise and diet, some with extreme views, but in his time, Macfadden(1868-1955) had little competition and was very successful, though often controversial. He stressed bodybuilding, and this issue has many pin-up photos of people who'd followed his advice - some are young and beautiful, others just healthy looking people of various ages. Like so many nutritionists today, he thought that most of what people typically ate was bad for them - he was one of the first to complain about white bread. He was suspicious of the medicine of the time and thought most physical problems could be cured by diet and exercise. He felt that sex was a healthy activity, not just a necessary means of procreation - there's an article in this issue called "Too Much sex is Education Impossible. The covers are soiled and worn and the pages are yellowed.
