Description: PAPAYA BEST SUPER SWEET SEEDS 15-20 - PAPAYA FRUIT SEEDS These are as Photo shows ! HARDY TO 32F. LIKES WARM WEATHER FOR OPTIMAL GROWTH. HARDY TO ZONE 9b (25-30F) Homegrown papaya can offer an explosive taste that doesn't compare to store-bought . PLEASE READ and REREAD CAREFULLY ABOUT GERMINATION METHODS!!! BELOW: BEST WAY TO GERMINATE and VERY IMPORTANT: soak 20 seeds 1day in plain non chlorinated water Take (4) --- 5inch pots > then plant about 5 seeds in each 5 inch pot with good drainable soil about 1- 1.5 inch then water good and put pot in a Large zip lock bag (with NO holes)and blow breath air in it then seal it . Do Not open Bag again ! :Its a Micro Humid environment ! Put in area that gets 2- 4 at least hours of direct sun and the seeds will germinate inside in the pot ( like a little green house) Note : It can take 2-3 weeks to sprout -Once sprouted , let them grow leaves first then remove from zip lock bag and separate each plant without disturbing dirt on roots into each its own 4" pot with good drainable soil. This way is High success rate as they are in High humidity environment !!! >>when transplanting -- DO IT IN THE SHADE at end of Day! & And Leave them in shade after transplant for a day or 3 . Direct ground method - >NOT as effective as above 1 to 2 weeks after average last frost when soil is 70 F or warmer. Plant 1 inch deep or just scatter a dozen in good soil . 2-3 times per week seed may take several weeks to sprout and even 2months >is not unusual this way. :Note {first above method in plastic zip bag is BEST WAY! . Transplant at same spacing as direct ground soil sown -seeded crops - Transplants are delicate and roots are VERY sensitive to disturbance so make sure ALL dirt is around root when transplanting -- best to leave where they are planted . Keep ALL soil intact around plant root when transplanting and >DO IT IN THE SHADE at end of Day!. And Leave them in shade after transplant for a day or 3 . Dont overwater babies only when soil is dry >they Dont Like wet feet ! Plant 18-48 inches apart( the farther the better ) and when they are 18inches tall to 24 inches tall Plant them permanently at 20 inches Deep - Yes 20 -25 Inches so they DONT grow so tall and have Good roots for wind or you will wish you did!! Growth Time : mature tree of Fruitful producer is about 8months - to 1 year approx . papaya trees can produce fruit for 3-5 years .. In the space of 12 months, a single tree yields as much as 80 pounds of fruit. Both indoor container papayas and those grown outside generally are replaced after four to five years. Some papaya trees may live longer than that if not uprooted, but fruit production and ornamental value declines after about four years. Males have very Long stem Flowers and only can be verified when begin to show flowers. Females have short Fat flower close to main tree trunk. A mixed sex breed can have medium flowers but not Long and still make fruit! You will see fruit and WILL NOW when its time to KNOW ! NOTE -It seems more females than males generally ! Direct Sun Light is BEST with a Little afternoon or morning shade depending which side of sun movement you plant it on and average 1-2 heavy water/ rain per week-- when established . FRUIT PICKING (You can see our photo perfect example ) : When the still mostly green papaya fruit begins to have yellow streaks/band like yellow color showing change at tip starting you can pick it wrap in newspaper and put in a double plastic shopping bag and tie shut for 1-3 days this will speed ripening process and it will turn orangish yellow ready to eat . ONLY when it starts to show some yellow streak color change at /near tip area!!! You CANT Wait until it turns on the Tree ripe ,as animals smell its Ripeness!!! so picking almost all green with some yellow streaks ensures other animals Do Not eat it before you do ! Yummmmmmmmy !! Papayas are NOT for any Cold areas below 36 degrees or below -Please check your region Growing Zone with Online map reference COLD WEATHER PROTECTION Brief lows in those ranges are not enough to hurt a relatively dry root system, so don't worry about protection. A sustained low of 33 to 34 degrees, however, will damage foliage. The leaves and crown (growing tip) are quite sensitive, and a mild frost will kill them. The stem of the papaya plant is frost-tender, but I have never seen one damaged by frost. plants may NOT survive frost and may be affected by EXCESS shade, drought, water or wind.
