Description: This cool old guitar was built in New Jersey by the Oscar Schmidt company circa 1933. Grand concert size = 15 1/4" wide . . . . almost 3 3/4" deep. This old Stella rings like a bell! The incontrovertible OSCAR SCHMIDT attributes of this guitar: 1) 25" scale.2) angle on neck heel.3) obvious SCHMIDT bracing with SQUARE-CUT top kerfing and TRIANGULAR back kerfing.4) conspicuous curve to the back.5) that little number stamp on the butt end is also an OS thing.6) the ladder-braced top has 4 transverse braces, and also a bridge plate that spans the entire width of the top and tucks under the kerfing at each side -this is only seen on OS guitars and on the hand built Italian guild Galiano labeled guitars! (ok, maybe on some obscure ones I haven't looked inside -but no 1930's Harmonys I've seen -can't recall what type my Oahu 68K & 69K jumbos had :/ 7) Etc. Super slide tone on this Stella! -very few troublesome overtones. There is no buzzing or rattling; zero fretting-out. I added a popsicle brace under the fingerboard extension. The back has never been removed from this guitar so the bracing has not been fooled with or "enhanced" (haha). Solid birch body with funky original finish -you can see how much bigger this guitar is when side-by-side with a regular concert Stella (obviously not included).V profiled neck.Nut width is a hair over 1 3/4"Original fretboard & frets.Fresh neck reset; this neck did not need an added truss rod -it's already pretty dang straight with just a hair of relief.No cracks or damage. . . .there's a tiny surface fissure that runs across the end pin -does not go through -the block is not cracked or repaired.All bracing is tight.Neck angle is perfect -pays great all up & down (high E 12th. fret = a little over 1/16")Intonation on the high E string is excellent. . . .you can play up around the 12th. fret no problem -it's in tune.Oh yeah, the bridge has 2 small indentions on its wings from filled holes -someone had installed 2 small screws.Bridge has been reglued.New bone nut. This guitar is well suited for medium strings.Currently strung with light gauge strings. . . .if you play in open G, this guitar responds better up in Ab with 12's.
