When we found them in Kyoto, they were still packaged together in their original wrappers. We think they were leftovers from a business that made labels. The artistry and colors make them great art pieces. And the interesting part of these are . . . Look closely at the printed English. In the late 1800's Japan had just opened up to the world and was trying to modernize itself and that meant using English in their advertising to show they were "International" and "Modern". But . . .often they didn't have a good grasp of English. And sometimes spacing between words was a mystery These were common foreign language mistakes made in Japan in the late 1800's - early 1900's. The Japanese kanji are written right to left (This changed in the late 1920's) Also Japan is written as "Dai Nihon" (Great Japan) instead of "Nihon" (Japan) which changed in 1945. These are an indication of their age. We have 7 different sets of sake labels. And discounted pricing for multiple orders of the same set.
