Contact Us!71 55571 6 88 Description: 1 very old Kamakura/Nanbokucho period antique Japanese sword nakago available. There are many possible reasons that this sword was cut. One possibility is that the sword had a crack or fatal flaw. Another was that this sword was unlicensed in Japan, so therefore was illegal to own. These cut-off nakago make beautiful display pieces for collectors. They can be mounted on a wall display or displayed in a display case. This particular nakago can be useful for study of very early swords. Another common use is as a source for tamahagane for repairs to existing Japanese swords with flaws. If a sword with large ware void is important or historic enough, that area(s) can be filled with tamahagane steel. And the most readily available tamahagane is often these sacrificial cut-off swords. This cut-off sword's nakago and portion of the blade itself measures 9" (23.7 cm), including the tang. Condition:This fine Kamakura/Nanbokucho era Japanese Samurai sword collectible was filed on one side of the nakago at least roughly 100 years ago to make it fit existing sword mounts.
