Description: For sale is a beautiful Northwest Coast carving depicting a Thunderbird and Killer Whale. This vintage carving is likely circa mid 20th c. as many NWC carvers were staining cedar plaques at that time. On this piece the patina is almost two tone which presents a very attractive smooth finish. This plaque is very well carved with deep cuts and contoured which requires sharp skills. Signed on the reverse Stanley Matilpi (1936-2005) b. Alert Bay, Vancouver Island, BC: Stan was a member of Kwakiutl Nation. Measurements: 26 X 6 X 1 3/4 inches - very good pre owned condition.
