Description: Here at Windy Corner Farms in Connecticut we have been growing this variety for over six years, starting with traditional Cherokee Glass Gem Corn seed from several heirloom growers and selecting seeds from ears with the most color for re-planting. Stunningly beautiful and ever-varied, opening up each ear of this amazing decorative corn variety is like Christmas morning. Plant in full sun when soil temperature has reached about 60 degrees Fahrenheit, in a square block rather than long rows to help pollination. Corn takes about 100 days to mature. This is a variety of flint corn and can actually be used to make popcorn when dried. It is not sweet corn and not recommended for eating that way. To be clear this is non-GMO corn that is safe to eat; it is simply best to wait until the husks are dry for the brightest colorful kernels. You can re-plant the seeds (kernels) and grow it every year, selecting your favorite ears to re-plant. They make great table décor for Thanksgiving Dinner! If kept dry the seeds will be viable for several years. Requires medium watering. Organic material worked into the soil before planting will increase height and yield. The ears are ready to harvest when the husks are dry. Over time, this selective breeding led to the creation of this truly amazing rainbow-colored corn.
