Natalie was sitting with her husband Robert Wagner, dining on the patio of a restaurant in Catalina Island. The afternoon weather was on the cool sideand it was starting to drizzle. The waiter was in the midst of moving the couple inside before their lunch was served.I was sitting at a table next to them. After a brief chat, I asked for her autograph and she thanked me for asking. She took the card, and began to sign it with Mr. Wagner's green-ink pen. Because it was drizzling, she rubbed her hand across the card before signing it. Then the pen skipped as Natalie signed it. Her bracelet brushed the card and the drizzle outside made the autograph smudge. She laughed as she handed it back to me, saying "Well..it really is ME!" ABOUT NATALIE WOOD Natalie Wood (1938-1981) was a delicate and beautiful Hollywood star. She started acting at the age of 4 and was given a co-starring role at the age of 8 in "Miracle on 34th Street" (1947) As a teenager, Natalie was nominated for an Oscar as Best Supporting Actress for her role as James Dean's girlfriend in "Rebel Without a Cause" (1955). Her other films included "The Searchers" (Directed by John Ford in 1956), "West Side Story" (1961) and "Gypsy" (1962). Natalie also received Oscar nominations for Best Actress for "Splendor in the Grass" (with Warren Beatty in 1961) & "Love With the Proper Stranger" in 1963. Her film career continued with "Sex and the Single Girl (1964), "Inside Daisy Clover" (1965) and "Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice" in 1969. After that, Natalie took a hiatus to concentrate on raising a family. She had 2 daughters, one with her second husband Richard Gregson and one with Robert Wagner, who was her first husband. After divorcing Gregson, Natalie and Robert Wagner remarried. She returned to work, mostly in TV, and appeared in a remake of "From Here to Eternity," for which she won a Golden Globe Award. After starting work on the film "Brainstorm" (1983), she drowned off the coast of Catalina Island in 1981. "Brainstorm" would have been her comeback film but her life was tragically cut short at the age of 43. Ever since, the conflicting versions of how and when she died, have generated speculation and made headlines around the world.
