Description: the class c59 was a 4-6-2 equipped mainline passenger train tower specifically targeted for service on the tokaido and sanyo main lines which collectively ranged from tokyo to hiroshima.....designed in the late 1930s and produced from 1941-1947, the 173 c59s were built by kawasaki, hitachi, and kisha seizo with a maximum operating speed of 100 kph.....the operational staff of JNR - both drivers and maintenance personnel - received the new class with mixed reviews.......problems included overload and premature wear on the rear truck and ergonomically unsatisfactory cab design.......just as the end of ww2 end would have allowed addressing some these negatives, the decision to electrify the aforementioned main lines and the development of the c62 class from surplus d51 boilers rendered any amelioration plan superfluous...... the last c59s were retired from service in the early 1960s..... i acquired this a9615 from a private party in japan who asserted the model was "beautiful goods", the japanese collectible terminology for an item of outstanding, like new quality.......upon arrival, the c59's condition belied that cherished description somewhat........several press fit components were detached and required remediation with canopy glue 560 to secure them properly - one of the underside tender ladders, the engineer's cab, and the steam valve throttle control.....after completion of retrofit, a test run revealed smooth and consistent operation at 30-35% on the rheostat for n scale factored operating speed and a head lamp comparatively considering its pre chip led technology.......the wheel sets are clean........although displaying no overt damage, the case shows some scratches and other age marks....... the only accessory for the a9615 is a rapido coupler for the locomotive front end, whose installation protocol will have to be intuited as microace provides only a rudimentary sketch as instructions.....
