Mexico City, 1713 Half Real "J" Philip V. VERY RARE!

Description: Mexico City 1713 Half Real "J" Philip V 1.40 grams Old Style Monogram.  Visible partial date "13". Despite what one might think, a dated example of a coin struck in 1713 is quite rare. Dated examples with 1713 are all tough, but especially so the half real, or medio. 1713 was a fairly good production year, but failed miserably to produce coins with visible dates. It was also the final year the mint made dies in the “old style” (1702-1713). 1714 served as a sort of transitional year. In which all the old dies and punches (1712-13) were put to use via adding the new date while the mints new engraver worked tirelessly to create dies for coins of the “Neat new style” of 1714-1733. Thus many coins those presume to be undated issues of “1713” , are actually quite more often 1714/3, or 1714. Make no mistake, 1714 and 1715 were massive production years, and thanks to the 1715 fleet, coins from 1714 are very abundant. But if we dial it back to 1713, not so much. It is a year often over looked when it concerns scarcity. And a year better known for coins by design than physical date. I have included some additional photos of a second coin, simply to show an exact die match to the coin listed. Please note this is not for two coins, only the one cob coin shown in the main photo and macro images. The side by side images are for comparison only. Take a good look at the comparisons if you have any doubts about this cob, as you will see that the monogram / obverse (and reverse) match exactly. Right down the pellet inside the loop of the P for Philip. Make me an offer. I combine shipping.
