Description: Beautiful vintage McIntosh MX110 receiver & vacuum tube amplifier unit, from the 1963 run of "Z" serial numbered models. This unit has been looked over and cleaned thoroughly, and missing tubes replaced with new ones where necessary. No outer chassis, so this would be perfect for either someone wanting an almost fully refurbished unit to finish out with your own OEM parts, or if you want to use a custom chassis that will display the glowing tubes more prominently, there are lots of viable options with this one. Either way, this MX110 has been tested for power and sound input/output, and everything is working properly. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ***PLEASE READ!: The one really notable functional defect with this particular unit is that the center knob shaft for the on/off switch has broken off, and the outer knob is missing, so the switch can not be operated easily, if at all. Fortunately the switch is in the on position, however you will either need to have the receiver plugged into a power strip with an on/off switch(or extension cord with an inline switch) to turn it off without unplugging it, or you will need to have an experienced technician open the unit and replace the entire potentiometer component. The last option would mean sourcing a relatively hard to find component and someone with the technical skills to replace it (requires fairly difficult soldering), so your best and easiest bet would be the power strip. This is a relatively common occurrance with the MX110, and many experienced owners in fact recommend this method even with units that still have a functional power knob in order to preserve the internal switch mechanism, which is a known point of failure for this model. So despite the missing knob, the fact that the unit can be powered on and used normally without any risk of further wear and tear on the switch could actually be to your benefit in the long term! ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ More info:The dial that sits behind the missing power knob that controls the left/right balance is still in place, and functions as it should. The other two stacked dual pots on either side of the front panel, which let you adjust the amount of bass or treble in the left and right speakers independently, are both fully intact and function perfectly. All other controls have been checked and seem to be in good working order. This is a wonderful hi-fi amp that sounds amazing and is still sought after for good reason. Pair it with some quality speakers and McIntosh remarkably still supports these units despite them being over 60 years old, and the original 1963 manual can even be downloaded from their website(HIGHLY recommended), although it's worth noting that it is not exactly light reading;). It gives you every bit of technical information about the unit you could ever want in excruciating detail, which some might find intimidating at first, but it's all a part of owning vintage hi-fi equipment, and these things will probably last several more decades if properly maintained. Note: The listing photos showing the tubes glowing brightly were shot in a completely dark room with special low-light camera settings for the sole purpose of showing that the tubes are functional. Our intent is not to mislead buyers by making the tubes look brigher than they actually are; the glow in normal, bright indoor lighting will not be nearly as dramatic as it looks in the photos. They will glow like this when you turn off all the lights, though, and it's honestly pretty cool:)
