Description: VERY RARE. 18th CENTURY HAND PAINTED SPANISH TILE. 26CM X 26 CM. TRIANA SERVILLE . This tile is richly decorated and painted in beautiful colours which are still vibrant . These are typical colours used on Spanish tiles in distinguished houses across Serville. Dated 1720 / 50,. Size is much larger than average,.. 26cm x 26cm and 20mm thick Or 10" 1/2 x 10"1/2 Weight 2.1 kg before packing. It has a large corner piece missing on the bottom right and a chip to the top right corner and a small chip on the bottom left corner also some remnants of the old mortar along the top edge and some on the right edge i have not tried to remove any as the mortar can be harder than the tile itself. There are some manufacturing flaws on the surface glaze in the form of pinholes which is often found on on these old glazes. what's also interesting someone has left there thumb print in the clay and has clearly disfigured the yellow circle before it was fired. Looking at the back of the tile there are what look like chisel marks along the edges and on the surface I think this may of occurred when removing none of this can be seen when viewing from the front. It's still looking pretty good for 270 yrs old ,.colours still as vibrant as the day it was made. Please study the photos as this does help with the description. There are similar large tiles in the Carranza collection.
