Description: Sold as is Serious buyers with basic understandings only please for sale Koto period large Muneyaki Sunnobi-Tanto in Shirasaya, Mumei unsigned as shown in the photos, a typical 寸延び短刀Sunnobi-Tanto that's slightly larger than the average. The style of 寸延び短刀Sunnobi-tanto originated early as 南北朝Nanboku-cho period, which is a style of oversized Tanto blade that's designed to be used on the battlefield as an effective sidearm. Comparing to ordinary Tanto blades, it has a larger size with a Nagasa of 1 or 2 寸Sun longer than a whole 尺. despite having some cosmetic imperfection like surface stains and scratches due to long term storage, and some Tsukare tired spot/ Shingane exposure due to over polishing, the blade is overall in complete shape with no significant damages observed. It's quite a piece of steel in hand, which the Sugata suggests it being a great cutter. It has a long 棟焼きMuneyaki Hamon on Mune back of the blade, which make it has a much more aggressive and visually attractive looking. It's Mumei unsigned, which the Nakago seems Ubu original, but curiously has a secondary Mekugi-ana pin hole on a very unusual spot, don't quite know the reason. I personally think this is a Sue-Koto (late Muromachi period) blade, more research awaiting.
