Description: Julie Andrews 1956 MY FAIR LADY Magazine Prior to Walt Disney Fame Mary Poppins Historic Entertainment Treasures from Saturday's Toys presents... an original issue of Theatre Arts Magazine from March 1956 Pictured on the cover is Julie Andrews (born 1935) as she prepares for the March 15, 1956 Broadway premiere of "My Fair Lady" (only five days after her Desilu television debut in "High Tor" with Bing Crosby). The photograph was taken by the production's stage and costume designer, Tony award winner Cecil Beaton (1904 - 1980). The famed designer also received three Academy Award Oscars for his work on both Gigi (1959) and My Fair Lady (1964). As this new Lerner and Loewe musical version of "Pygmalion" had not yet opened, only this exceptional cover photo graces the magazine without an accompanying feature article. Magazine provides a thorough overview of the Broadway scene as Julie Andrews returned for the first time since her debut in "The Boy Friend". Includes many vintage ads and articles about productions then playing to Broadway audiences. Includes articles by Michael Redgrave, Marc Connelly, Maurice Zolotow and Robert Davies. Also includes the complete text of "The Rainmaker" by N. Richard Nash. Back cover still includes the magazine's Stamford, Connecticut mailing label for stage manager, author, film and theatre historian Jerry Vermilye (b. 1931). Magazine is in very good condition; nicely preserved for nearly seven decades. A wonderful addition to any collection of Julie Andrews or "My Fair Lady" memorabilia and an essential introduction to the future mega-star that would be honored with the Academy Award for her 1964 portrayal of Walt Disney's "Mary Poppins." About Us Combined Shipping Available Saturday’s Toys and Collectibles was founded in 1994 by Southern California author and media historian, Dave Mason. Soon after eBay's launch the following year, Saturday's Toys was among the first online specialists to strategize in embracing this rapidly developing technology. Having delivered over 16,000 coveted treasures since that time, Saturday's Toys is pleased to partner with researchers and collectors throughout the globe. Today, online offerings of archival keepsakes are presented in celebration of the times that allow for family, friends and neighbors to join in memorable gatherings that nurture the strong connections that bind a community together. These treasures are affectionately represented by "Saturday's Toys." In that light we present our adopted motto (with a nod to the Sherman Brothers): "Oh, let's go fly a kite!" We are glad to combine shipping for multiple purchases in order to reduce costs whenever possible. Simply let us know before processing payment for the items selected and we'll be glad to revise and forward a final invoice to reflect the combined shipping price. This usually works most effectively when combining flat paper items (postcards, newsletters, ephemera, etc.) but we'll do our best to make any combined purchase provide your best value for shipping.
