The photograph was taken by the production's stage and costume designer, Tony award winner Cecil Beaton (1904 - 1980). The famed designer also received three Academy Award Oscars for his work on both Gigi (1959) and My Fair Lady (1964). As this new Lerner and Loewe musical version of "Pygmalion" had not yet opened, only this exceptional cover photo graces the magazine without an accompanying feature article. Magazine provides a thorough overview of the Broadway scene as Julie Andrews returned for the first time since her debut in "The Boy Friend".
