Description: John Powers Art Ink Drawing "Balboa Bears" Steiff Teddy Bear Boat Nautical This is a beautiful drawing and water color created by California artist, John Powers. It would be perfect for a nursery, children's room, or for any teddy bear lover. The location in the picture is the historic Balboa Pavilion on Balboa Island in Newport Beach, California. The colors on the print look like a vibrant and bright water color. This is a limited edition print which has been hand colored and signed. I believe it is a series of 300, because I have 2 other pieces which are editions of 300, but you can't see the edition behind the matting. This professionally framed piece is behind glass and has a pink frame and matting, and the second layer of matting is a blue/green. The full piece measures approximately 20 inches wide by 16 inches tall. There are a few small nicks to the paint on the frame from storage. The back does not come with the wire to hang on the wall. On the back of the picture, there is a paper with information about the artist. "John Powers works primarily in pen and ink, and more recently in etching and aquatint. Since pen and ink is a slow medium, and some of his works require 40-50 hours of work, most of his drawings are done from photographs. These photographs are combined with sketches and studies reducing the values to just seven steps from white to black. The values are achieved by building up various layers of crosshatching, a pattern of line over line. John prefers subject matter reflecting American taste in the 1930's and 1940's. Some of these subjects remain, but most have long since vanished and have to be reconstructed from vintage photographs. He has recently become interested in antique toes, particularly early Steiff bears. His series of hand colored limited edition bear prints have become very popular with bear collectors. A California native, John received his art education, his B.A. and M.A. at CAL-State University, Fullerton. Cleaned only with a damp cloth for photos. Please see photos for more details.
