Description: Please check out my 100% Positive eBay feedback and bid with complete confidence. (And please check out the other beautiful pots that I have on eBay.) You are bidding on a wood-fired sculptural piece by internationally renowned New York ceramist Jeff Shapiro. DESCRIPTION: This museum quality piece is an angled four-sided “pillow” form with two well-placed nipples on one of its longer sides. When displayed, it rests on one of its pointy corners, which makes for a most dramatic presentation. One side has a shino glaze with beautifully contrasting metallic rust gray accents- and features six seashells. The glaze bubbled and blistered in places, imparting to the piece a rich textural element. The raw clay body - rendered a tasty orange in the wood kiln- shows through in spots and adds another layer of “depth” to the surface of the sculpture. On the “quieter” other side, the darker tones take center stage and the shino becomes more of an accent tone. The two contrasting sides of the piece engage in dramatic interplay as one views them from different angles. This highly collectible sculptural work measures 14” long by 10” wide- and approximately 3” deep at the center (the diagonal distance between the corners is 18” and 15”)- and displays nicely large. It is in mint condition – with no post-firing issues of any kind- and has the potter’s incised signature. PLEASE NOTE: The original stand is included. However, I always felt that its dowel should be longer and, as a result, I have never displayed the piece without using museum wax. This is a no reserve auction. ABOUT JEFF SHAPIRO: Jeff Shapiro lived and studied his craft in Japan for nine years before returning to the United States and starting his own pottery at Accord, NY. In addition to being one of the “pioneers” who helped to introduce Americans to the beauty of anagama-fired pots, he is one of only a handful of American potters whose aesthetic has been wholeheartedly embraced in Japan, where he has had many solo exhibitions and his pots are widely collected. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse, NY and the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, NY among others. In addition, he was commissioned by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York to create a piece of sculpture for their Japan Gallery. SHIPPING: Winning bidder pays for insured UPS Ground or USPS Priority shipping. Winning bidder pays any applicable state sales tax that might be collected by eBay. International shipping charge is $150. Winning international bidders are responsible for any import fees imposed by their particular country. Payment is due within three days of the end of the auction. THANKS for looking and GOOD LUCK.
