Description: The Bruiser, by Hogarth, is well known, created a year before his death in 1764. A copper engraving, I had this appraised and learned that, because of the "N.B." on the log the bear is holding, dates it to the 5th state, @1802, so 2022 years old! The quality of the engraving is excellent, but there is a small tear on the upper left (I taped it in the back, which I hated to do, but did not want it to get larger). The border shows wear, some water stains and corner tears, but it could be framed, hiding the damage, but definitely great looking under glass. Engraving itself measures 13"x10" with 1" at bottom with caption, large border is 4"wide, total size is 23 x 18.25 Please contact us with any questions. See our feedback. Driven by a sense for justice, he missed no chance to get into a quarrel with his contemporaries. His most hated enemy was the British politician *John Wilkes, whom he had ridiculed in one of his engravings, "The Bruiser," presented here.
