The lilies in Christian art usually mean faith and chastity, but in this case they also indicate that she was a great botanist. The Latin at the bottom translates to “The Splendor of the Holy Spirit is Illustrated by All the Ways of Revelation”St. Hildegard was a prophet. She was also a Benedictine abbess, writer, poet, botanist, and composer who lived an astonishing life in 12th-century Germany. She had numerous prophetic and mystical visions during her lifetime and is reported to have been a miracle worker. She advised Popes. Her art and music are still enjoyed and admired today.
