Hawkman 7 ART PIECE Crocodile Production Acetate Cover Gator Villains Variant`65

Description: Genuine 1960's DC Comics Cover Production Art! RARE BLACK LINE PROOF DEPICTING HAWKMAN BATTLING AGAINST THREE CROCODILE MEN, THE DOMESTIC VERSION WAS BY MURPHY ANDERSON, THIS ONE IS FOREIGN, 'O GAVIAO NEGRO'. THIS IS A TRANSPARENT HEAVY FILM, A CLEAR ACETATE, 8.25" X 11.75". ESSENTIALLY A TRANSPARENCY, WITH THE COVER ART ON IT, --JUST THE BLACK LINE WORK, NO COLOR. THIS IS CIRCA MID-SIXTIES, (1965 WAS THE YEAR IT HIT AMERICAN NEWSSTANDS) AND WAS USED TO ADAPT THE COVER FOR THE PORTUGUESE-LANGUAGE MARKET IN BRAZIL. IT IS SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT THAN THE FAMOUS COVER BY MURPHY ANDERSON THAT GRACED HAWKMAN #7 IN THE DOMESTIC MARKET. IT APPEARS THEY BELIEVED THE FLOPPY GALOSHES AND LOOSE GLOVES WOULD MAKE IT TOO LAUGHABLE IN THE SOUTH AMERICAN MARKET. SO IT APPEARS SOMEBODY WHO SIGNED AS "MARIO" MADE ONE BADDIE HAVE A MORE 'LATIN' POSTERIOR, ALONG WITH MAKING THE GLOVES AND ALLIGATOR BOOTS FIT THE CROCODILE MEN MUCH BETTER. THE IMAGE AREA IS 7.25" X 10.75". THESE COOL ALLIGATOR CULT VILLAINS ARE FONDLY REMEMBERED, AND IT HAD A 12-CENT PRICE IN THE USA (CURRENCY AND NUMBERING IS DIFFERENT FOR THE BRAZILIAN COVER, AND IN THIS CASE, THE CHARACTER DEPICTIONS ARE EVEN DIFFERENT.) This piece of comics history is a great gift for any Hawkman fan or lizard fiend. NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH SOMETHING USED TO MAKE A REPRINT OR A TRADE PAPERBACK OR GRAPHIC NOVEL OR ANY OTHER COMMON MODERN ITERATION, THIS RARE PIECE WAS USED TO PRODUCE THE ORIGINAL FIRST PORTUGUESE PRINTING, BACK IN THE SIXTIES. THIS IS ONE OF MANY RARE COLLECTIBLES WE'RE LISTING THIS MONTH. IT'S DIFFICULT TO FIND IN ANY SHAPE, AS MOST OF THE PRODUCTION EPHEMERA OF THE ERA GOT DESTROYED AFTER THE RELATED COMIC HIT THE STANDS; CHECK AROUND IN THE MARKET FOR YOURSELF AND NOTE HOW MOST OF IT IS REPRO STUFF NOT VINTAGE, AND THEN COME BACK AND BID. CERTAINLY A GREAT IMAGE, FOR ANY FAN OF THE ICONIC DC SUPERHEROES INCLUDING ATOM, HAWKMAN, JLA, THE FLASH, ETC. Some of you have bought comics & art from us via our many ads in C.B.M. and/or C.B.G. (Comic Book Marketplace and Comics Buyer's Guide, etc.) We are secure packagers and prompt shippers so expect to be pleased. Back in the "good ole days", publishers normally burned or discarded such production art once the comic went to print. This is the actual acetate film, a stat made directly from the original art onto a clear sheet of acetate, which could be revised or overlayed with additional sheets containing color, backgrounds, text elements, etc, to create the desired image. I bet it would look awesome if used on an overhead projector, and projected onto a white wall or movie screen! For additional information, check out the lengthy color article on the comic production process of the era in the September 2001 issue of Comic Book Marketplace (which is still available from us in another current auction) as well as Alter-Ego #56 (which includes interviews with Adler, and Neal Adams, Howard Stern, and Joe Kubert, whom were all greatly influenced by him.) Additional cover art can now be found by checking the other Key Comics ebay auctions (User ID: keycomics). Contact us with any questions. Buy aggressively, as such items are often one-of-a-kind, and forty-plus year old production pieces as a whole are notoriously rare. Superb condition (obviously very well preserved) and larger than comic size; I hope that the scan will convey that this is a great looking showpiece, which would be especially impressive framed. SEE OUR OTHER LISTINGS FOR MORE RARE VINTAGE PRODUCTION ITEMS! If you like old DC superhero ephemera or vintage comic artwork, ~it doesn't get much better than this! Each item is securely-packed, with plenty of protective packaging material. This collectors item WILL find a new home, as the asking price is LOW and there is NO RESERVE! ALWAYS OF INTEREST TO THE ADVANCED COLLECTOR, BUT INCREASINGLY RARE, SUCH OBSCURE COLLECTIBLES ARE ONLY GETTING HOTTER! This historic item is a real find in any shape, as most were likely used to proof the cover copy and character depictions and then were sadly discarded, decades ago. We are now offering other nice vintage production pieces including some Batman and Superman rarities, plus rare comic line art; And we'll be offering hundreds of other art pieces and collectable comics in the next few months. Check out our ebay items regularly! A lot has happened with the comics in the past four-plus decades since this item was utilized, adding more allure to the fabled vintage items such as this; so I don't suggest waiting around until these obscure items have gone through the roof.... The exclusive production pieces from this beloved silver-age era are always in demand, but are rarely available in the market, especially in stellar condition like this! Great presentation, which must be seen in person to be appreciated. If you are a discriminating JSA or JLA ephemera collector or a serious DC Comics fan, and prefer the little-known rarest items without significant flaws, then NOW is your brief window of opportunity. It looks less appealing in the disappointing picture, ~but in person it looks spectacular! There are no stains and no tack-holes or creases or rippling or fading; --it is hard to believe it's over four decades old! * THE LINES ARE CLEAN AND CLEAR! * We are prompt shippers & secure packagers, expect to be pleased. ASKING PRICE IS LOW AND THERE IS NO RESERVE! This auction includes: ACETATE STAT TO FRONT COVER FOR A HAWKMAN COMIC, ADAPTING THE COVER FROM HAWKMAN #7, TO TRANSLATE IT FOR THE PORTUGUESE-SPEAKING READERS. RARE ORIGINAL PRODUCTION PIECE, NOT SOME MODERN VERSION USED FOR A GN, REPRINT, COMPILATION, TPB, HARDCOVER BOOK, OR ARCHIVES VOLUME. A MUST-HAVE ITEM FOR ANY BIRD OR LIZARD BUFF OR HAWKMAN COLLECTOR OR ANDERSON FAN. ONE OF THE BETTER COVERS OF THE WHOLE SERIES!
