" run !!! Whew !! And This ! my Friends ( though I do hope I am speaking to the choir on this ... ) was one-of the hands-down Meanest !!! runs in Rock 'n Roll History !! And, therefore - as far as G.D. History ?! ... we can put it right-up-there at the Top ! Now, keep in mind - this opinion is coming from me & my ears ... but, where there's Smoke !! - there's Fire !!! - and 10/27/84 - 10/28/84 - 10/29/84 - 10/30/84 ( This Pass !! ) - 10/31/84 - 11/2/84 - and 11/3/84 had Copious ! amount of Both !! Smoke ! & Fire !! Scarlet > Fire !!! ... the-kind we all Love !! This is indeed the ' Brent-Era ' G.D. unit running on All-Systems-Go ! ... and they just get-after ! it - night after night - time after time - set after set - tune after tune - and ... ok, well - you get my point here. Ha !! But seriously ... at times - this is some real " Take No Prisoners " G.D. ( side-note : have You ? heard That ! Lou Reed Album ?? - Whoa ?!? ) - not to get too-far off course - sorry ( ha ! ) ... but, this little ' Window ' here is Jerry Garcia at one of his Finest-Guitar-Peaks ! I mean this is the ' Guitar-Players ' Era !!! And me - that's what I want to hear. Sure, I listened to the Europe '72 Box twice ... and yes - sure, it's Dead at their collective-best. But, there is really no slop - and to my ear orchestration - seamlessness & integration only goes so far. When " chance-taking " Rock 'n Roll goes down - and goes down with a Gusto ! of Passion - then the Payoffs can just be Huge ! With 11/3/84 maybe being the ' best ' example of this run - but, believe me ... it's pretty hard to pick one Show here. And ... when Bobby Weir is feelin' it - and delivering like this ??! I mean Watch-Out ! Phil gets into the mix & Blasts ! ... the Two-Headed drummers sense this opportunity like blood on the water ( or the Tracks ! ) & the Attack ! is On !!! And Brent ? Whoa !!! Brent / Weir Vocal cat & mouse trade-offs in this era are plain Killer ! And yes, I do mean killer in a Grate ! way. I was too young to go to this '84 BCT run - and was born too late - but, to me & my ears ... if I had a " Time Machine ?? " - well it just might be landing somewhere on either Telegraph - or Shattuck - just a few hours before the 10/27 night - and I would have to park it ( maybe on that hill behind the Greek ?! ) for over a week ! Because it would indeed be On ! at the B.C.T. for me Folks. I mean Hey ... why not come along for the Ride ! And just to think too ... you get completely-hammered by a few-nights of This !?! - only to wake up the next-day - for a Halloween Show ?! in Bezerkeley !?! in 1984 !!?!! On man ... and then - right around the corner - you have to sustain both !! 11/2/84 ??! & 11/3/84 ???!! And actually live-through that kind of Rock 'n Roll muscle ?!! How does one even make it through this G.D. Bliss !? Wow ... Ok, enough - I've got to go & pop-in Set II of 11/3/84 ... which will indeed be the ' 2nd ' time as of really-recently. I mean hey - one can only ' write ' about this cosmic-stuff for so-long - but yes, I do find a way. This run might be a big part in why I actually moved-to & lived-in Berkeley ... right on Durant ! Awesome. Oh ... and by the way too - there's a pretty cool Classic Car ! on this Pass too - right ? Ha !! And, of course too ... let's not forget " Bertha " Skull & Roses !! Classic ... And - Naturally ! ... Scarlet > Fire !!! & The Other One !!! Wow !!! ... Enjoy !!!!!
