The Fletcher Henderson Story “A Study in Frustration” (PWR 27380) is similarly a reissue, on 3 CDs, of an iconic four LP set, which offered 64 selections from between 1923 and 1938, and was rightly acclaimed at the time of its release. Additional playing time has enabled it to be augmented by an additional 10 tracks from 1934 and 1936, and the 24-page booklet contains photographs, a 2018 essay by Adam Ritz, John Hammond’s original sleeve notes, and Down Beat’s review (which mentioned “a few sloppy tape transfers”). The discography, whilst adequate, falls short of Frank Driggs’ original program annotation, which is not included.
