Fascinating arrangements for 4 pianos by the FIRST PIANO QUARTET in their Signature Tune, played with amazing synchronicityVladimir Padwa, Adam Garner, Franz Mittler and Edward Edson Founded in 1941 as a radio ensemble, the First Piano Quartet, consisting of four pianists - Vladimir Padwa, Frank Mittler, Adam Garner and Edward Edson - enjoyed great popularity during its first decade or so of existence. It's easy to understand why. Their arrangements, made by the players themselves, were great fun, were usually quite brilliant and were performed with a tightness of ensemble that made the four pianos sound almost like one super-piano. When the "FPQ" began recording for Victor, the company initially didn't consider them Red Seal material, putting their first three single releases and their first album (a set of Lecuona favorites) in the black-label 46-0000 "Double Feature" series. By 1948 these had all been reissued with red labels, and all their subsequent releases appeared as Red SealsFrédéric Chopin - Polonaise In A-Flat, Op. 53 Label: RCA Victor Red Seal – 12-0249Format: Shellac, 12", 78 RPMGenre: ClassicalStyle: RomanticPolonaise In A-Flat, Op. 53Composed By – Chopin*A Part 1 B ConcludedRecord Company – Radio Corporation Of AmericaPiano [Uncredited] – Adam Garner (2), Edward Edson, Frank Mittler, Vladimir PadwaOrig Issue RCA Victor 12" 78 rpm record Condition:EXCELLENT minus unworn but rubbed, plays E EXCEPTIONALLY QUIET rare ticksA SUPERB COPYThe First Piano Quartet was a quartet of pianists first organized in the United States in 1941. Its founding members were Vladimir Padwa, Franz Mittler, Adam Garner, and Edward Edson. The quartet was originally conceived of as a radio group. It made its New York concert debut in 1949. The quartet toured extensively with their four Steinway pianos during the late 1950s, and made recordings in the 1940s and 1950s. Most of its arrangements were made by Adam Garner.[1] By 1950, Padwa was replaced by George Robert.[2] In the early 1950s, Glauco D'Attili became the latest member. D'Attili, a former child prodigy from Romewas brought to the United States in 1927 by Benjamino Gigli and was probably the most well-known of the group. He appeared, along with Edward Edson, Adam Garner, and Frank Mittler, in two movie shorts for 20th Century Fox in 1954, The First Piano Quartette and Piano Encores. Both were directed by Otto Lang, and The First Piano Quartette was nominated for an academy award in 1954 in the category Best Short Subject, One-reel.[3] The group also appeared on both The Ed Sullivan Show (Episode #7.30) and The Lawrence Welk Show. In the mid-1950s D'Attili was replaced by William Guntherand the quartet renamed itself to the Original Piano Quartet. The quartet appeared under its new name at Town Hall, New York on March 29, 1962.[4] D'Attili, the last surviving member of the quartet, died in autumn of 2007.[citation needed] More Great Records on sale right now: CLICK ON THIS LINK TO SEE MORE GREAT RECORDS CLICK ON THIS LINK TO SEE ALL ITEMS - VINTAGE BOOKS, VICTROLA and TURNTABLE ITEMS, CDs, Books and DVDs http://shop.ebay.com/carsten_sf/m.html ==== A Quick NOTE ON GRADING AND SHIPPING: As you can see from my feedback, I try hard to earn your POSITIVE FEEDBACK and FIVE STAR RATINGS. Quick note on grading: The Grade (Excellent to Poor, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to P), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise."EXCEPTIONALLY QUIET" is close to noiseless, like a vinyl pressing."VERY QUIET" is an above average quiet record for a given pressing."Quiet" is a record that is a great example with some noise. These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment. Multiple item shipping: I am happy to combine items for shipment in one parcel.
