Key Features: Material: White milk glass, known for its smooth, opaque finish and timeless appeal. Milk glass is a type of opaque or translucent glass that has a milky white appearance. It originated in Venice in the 16th century and became popular in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Milk glass was used to make a variety of decorative and functional items, including dishes, vases, and lampshades. Pedestal Base: The dish sits on a sturdy pedestal base, adding height and elegance to the piece. Size: Approximately 6.5 inches in diameter and 4 inches tall (including pedestal) Condition: Pre-owned, in very good condition with minor wear consistent with age. There are no significant chips or cracks, preserving the integrity and beauty of the piece. Markings: Authentic Fenton markings are found on the bottom of the dish, indicating its origin and authenticity. Historical and Cultural Significance: Fenton Art Glass Company has a rich history that dates back to 1905. The company was founded by brothers Frank L. and John W. Fenton in Martins Ferry, Ohio. Initially, they decorated glassware made by other manufacturers. In 1907, they moved to Williamstown, West Virginia, and began producing their own glassware. Fenton introduced "iridescent ware" (later known as Carnival glass) in 1907, which became very popular. During the Great Depression and World War II, Fenton produced practical items like mixing bowls and perfume bottles to stay afloat. The company expanded significantly under the leadership of Frank M. Fenton and Wilmer C. Fenton (Bill) in the late 1940s. George W. Fenton, Frank's son, became president in 1986, and the company continued to innovate and produce beautiful glassware until traditional glassmaking ceased in 2011. The factory property was sold in 2017, and plans are underway to build a new elementary school on the site. Fenton glassware is known for its beautiful colors, patterns, and skilled craftsmanship, making it highly collectible and cherished by enthusiasts. Usage: Candy Dish: Ideal for serving candies, nuts, or other treats at parties or gatherings. Decorative Piece: Use it as a decorative item on a coffee table, mantel, or shelf to add a touch of vintage charm to your living space. Storage: The lid makes it perfect for storing small items like jewelry, trinkets, or office supplies. Gift: A thoughtful and unique gift for anyone who appreciates vintage glassware and home decor. Care Instructions: Hand Wash Only: To preserve the beauty and integrity of the milk glass, please hand wash only. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that could damage the surface. This vintage Fenton hobnail milk glass candy dish is a must-have for collectors and those who appreciate fine glassware. Its classic design, practicality, and historical significance make it a standout piece in any collection. Ideal for display in your home or as a unique gift, this dish captures the timeless beauty and craftsmanship of Fenton glassware.
