Description: Eagle River is a city in and the county seat of Vilas County, Wisconsin with many lakes in the area, which makes the city a popular vacation and retirement destination. Eagle River is on the southern border of the county which is on the northern border of the state. The first recorded white settler in what became Vilas County was a man named Ashman who established a trading post in Lac du Flambeau in 1818. Eagles River’s name was derived from the abundance of eagles nesting along the river. A settlement grew as other families settled in the area in 1857 and was developed for farming and clear-cutting timber to build cities. The town of Eagle River was created by an act of the state legislature in 1885. wikipedia The city is about a four-and-a-half hour’s drive north from Milwaukee and the area is divided into two areas, the Three Lakes side, and the Eagle River side. The Chanticleer Inn is located on the banks of the river between Eagle Lake and Voyager Lake on the Three Lake side. It was named after a rooster in Chaucer’s “Canterbury Tales” and was built in 1922, offering villas, suites, condos, and hotel rooms, most of which are located on the banks of the river. Onmilwaukee This is a great card of a rock lined path to the lake with Cabin 8 on one side and the Dining Room on the other. It was published by “Rice-Maid”, who I could not find any information on. He is credited on a lot of Wisconsin real photos of the 20s and 30s, though. It has a stamp box that was used as early as 1904 and up to 1950. The card is in good condition with intact corner and edges and a beautiful clean and clear image. The reverse is also clean.
