Description: Detective Comics #34, December 1939 DC Golden Age CGC Coverless; off-white to white pages; first page Splash reused in Batman #1. Comes with reproduction cover & Batman story repro to enjoy this piece of history: The 8th appearance of Batman! A trophy treasure that collectors like me, who could never be able to afford the covered version, think is cool enough. As every year passes, fewer and fewer of these old comics are in the wild in any condition. Itโs cool to just have a book like this-from an anthropological point of view: Few people on the planet have one (see the CGC census)! In time, when pretty much all golden age comics have either been collected (and their market values become unattainable for most folks) or lost to the ravages of time, books like these will increase in value substantially. Creig Flessel's Crimson Avenger illustration displaces Batman from the cover spot, but this issue of Detective was the last without Batman on the cover, until Detective Comics #854! Again, the classic splash was recycled the next year in Batman #1, and makes this coverless highly desirable-as you can see it in all itโs glory. Moreover, a pre-Robin issue-hard to pass up. Bob Kane art, a bunch of other features; & a house ad for Flash Comics #1. Batman and Superman are the only superheroes at the time of this bookโs publication. Batman story titled "Peril in Paris", a story set in the aftermath of his battle with the Monk and sees him protect two strangers from a criminal called Duc D'Orterre. The story was written by Gardner Fox and presumed to have been drawn by Bob Kane and Sheldon Moldoff. Other stories in this issue include an untitled Spy story. "The Last Trick" (Buck Marshall, Range Detective), an untitled Steve Malone, District Attorney story. "The Spy Mystery" (Speed Saunders, Ace Investigator), an untitled Cosmo, the Phantom of Disguise story, "The White Goddess" (Bruce Nelson), and an untitled Slam Bradley story. โข The story features the last regular appearance of the Batgyro, with the vehicle being destroyed in the previous issue (though the story is set chronologically after this story).
